...and I'm not just saying that because I'm in it. The Australian public television station SBS has just broadcast a segment on presidential candidate Michele Bachmann, and it happens to be the best short introduction to this candidate that you can see on television.
The US traditional media was beaten by the Australian traditional media on a story about US politics--which is really effing sad, when you think about it. The journalist who made the piece, David O'Shea, points up the most important part of the Bachmann narrative--the conservative evangelical/divine mission claims and hateful demagogy that propelled her into this year's GOP presidential nomination contest.
People on this blog and other progressive and liberal blogs are well aware of Bachmann's record as a nut and hater. The problem has always been that the "straight news reporting" media were resistant to telling their audiences about "that angle" of her career. (That started to change this summer, after the Matt Taibbi piece in Rolling Stone.) This TV piece demonstrates that it's still possible to tell the truth about a liar and a hater in US politics, on television (if you live in Australia.)
