I know that few people discuss the Iraq War anymore, but this is big. According to Fox News (I'll be quoting from Politicalwire), the President, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, will remove troops from Iraq at a much faster rate than the Pentagon wanted. By the end of the year, there will be only ~3,000 troops remaining compared to the 27,000 wanted by the military brass:
"Senior commanders are said to be livid at the decision, which has already been signed off by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta. The generals on the ground had requested that the number of troops remaining in Iraq at the end of the year reach about 27,000."
I am happy that a war that had gone forgotten is going into its final chapter at long last. It seemed almost as endless as the Vietnam War. And, in response to the military brass, I would like to quote Georges Clemenceau:
War is much too serious a matter to be entrusted to the military.
What do you think?
