It doesn’t take rocket science to know that planet earth is in peril. Resources abound yet millions go hungry. Wars are being waged in the name of democracy yet, do you see the winners? Why doesn’t anybody know how to fix it? The question is not how do we fix it? The question is what will our new world look like? Nobody has the answers because we have not arrived at them yet.
The Occupy movement is a coming together of people who know something is terribly wrong. If you understand this then you understand what Occupy is all about. Certainly there are some common themes running through the movement, such as get money out of politics, fair taxes, electoral reform, and Wall Street regulation. These are the symptoms of a much bigger problem. It is no surprise that many are asking, “What do those occupiers want anyway?”
We want a world where people live in harmony. We want a world where resources are shared. We want a world where we collectively take care of each other. We want a world where war is not an option. We want a world where if you become ill, you don’t lose everything you worked hard for your entire life. We want a world where children are taught how to be human. We want a world where our differences don’t define us.
Is this asking for too much? I think not. “We are the ones we have been waiting for.” This has been said by many, including the Hopi Elders and Alice Walker. This is our moment. We are all members of the human race, regardless of the labels that try to divide us as black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Hindu, Christian, Jewish, atheist, socialist, Republican, Democrat, rich or poor.
Let’s work together. Let’s find our common ground, rather than accepting our labels of division.
Nobody knows exactly what our future looks like because we only have today. Seize the moment. Do you seek truth, justice, inner peace, and balance with nature? Or do you absorb what is being fed to you by the mainstream media? Do you take responsibility for your own actions? Or do you blame others for our current crisis? What are your intentions today?
If we all live intentionally to make this world a better place for future generations, it will be a better place. We have to desire it, think it, live it and speak it. We must be the change we wish to see in the world.
