I stopped in at my local post office this morning to drop off the last of the Christmas presents headed out of town.
I work in a rural location. Not a town to speak of, but we have a post office and a gas station. The speed limit drops to 40 for 1/2 mile and that's our little spot.
Rural often means conservative, and we could see that loud and clear during the past election cycles. Lots of Republican signs, with a hint of Democratic. I don't talk out loud about politics much around here.
So, into the post office this morning and two older women are chatting. Apparently both Catholics and discussing church issues. I slipped my box to the postmaster and then started to open my PO box to get the days mail. And I hear one woman say, "You know, what I really want to see the church do is let priests marry". A little ray of modern thinking, I thought. The other replies, "They should allow gays to marry too". Hello! What post office am I in? I thought I might see a fight break out. But then the first woman returns, "Well, one thing at a time".
Merry Christmas
