There has been an intense Maricopa County Board of Supervisors meeting going on today, with detractors of the dear Sheriff walking out in disgust. Seems some people in AZ are singing a different tune about Sheriff Joe, lately. He is not the popular fellow he likes to see himself as, anymore.
Last night an historic unanimous resolution City of Phoenix Human Relations Commission calling for his resignation passed.

Breaking News: City of Phoenix Human Relations Commission passes historic resolution calling for Sheriff Arpaio's immediate resignation. More and more citizens are finally speaking up about the injustices of Sheriff Arpaio's failed leadership.

Kudos to the members of the Phoenix Human Relations Commission who voted 13-0 to demand Joe Arpaio's resignation. Jeers to the city councilmembers who feared that denouncing Arpaio would endanger the city's contract with MCSO jails. Note: The contract is with the MCSO, NOT with Joe Arpaio.
It’s always risky standing up publicly against Sheriff Joe in AZ. His supporters stand ready to jump on anyone who speaks out against him. That’s why so many council people, supervisors and judges had to sue him for abuse of power. They just never quit. If MCSO was a criminal, instead of a law enforcement, organization they might be called the MAFIA.

HRC commissioner Diane D'Angelo took a huge stand and a huge risk last night, forcing a vote on Joe Arpaio. It's through the courage of people like her that we will be able to move beyond Arpaio's corruption and incompetence. Evidently, the Russell Pearce extremists are already calling for her removal. Call City Manager David Cavazos at 602-262-6941 and voice your support for the HRC and Diane D'Angelo.
Showing up to voice their disapproval of the Sheriff and call for his resignation, Citizens For a Better Arizona and Randy Parraz walked out after being told they would not get to comment till the very end. Having had to cover lots of board meetings, I have learned, if the subject is contentious, they will drag the meeting out for hours, until most people have left.
A Maricopa County Board of Supervisors meeting got rowdy Tuesday when dozens of Sheriff Joe opponents staged a mass walkout.
It happened as the sheriff's chief deputy was trying to convince the board that MCSO is making changes amidst allegations the department racially profiles and failed to investigate hundreds of sex crimes.
This was a meeting to bring the board up to speed on a number of investigations.
This young man, Michael Royer, got to speak:
(Not So)Historic Hearing on Sheriff Arpaio's Abuse of Power with Public Comment - Michael Royer
During the public comment portion of today's so-called hearing, Michael Royer spoke from the heart and gave his thoughts on the failings of Joe Arpaio and MCSO.
Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery told the board he hadn't gotten enough cooperation from the feds to have an opinion about the justice department's investigation of MCSO.
The sheriff's office says reforms are underway, but critics smell a cover-up.
Critics of Sheriff Arpaio wanted to weigh in, but Supervisor Max Wilson wouldn't let them talk until the end of the meeting -- so they interrupted the sheriff's chief deputy.

Sheriff Joe is 79. I think the chances he will resign, or not be reelected, are as dim as the voters in Maricopa County. There’s a better chance he might die a natural death at his age. Let’s just say I’m not holding my breath.
