The facts are still being determined - the numbers and details are changing - but apparently a US soldier walked off his base in Afghanistan and started shooting civilians.
Why are we there?
According to this report on yahoo:
A U.S. soldier has been detained in Afghanistan for shooting and wounding several civilians in southern province Kandahar, a spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) coalition said on Sunday.
"It was a shooting incident involving multiple civilians wounded," said the spokesman, Captain Justin Brockhoff, adding that there were no initial reports of deaths in the attack which took place on Sunday.
The report on MSNBC says that up to 17 people may have been killed.

I do not know what we are doing there. Propping up the leader? But this will make us less popular than ever.
I know that the US government lied while starting the war in Afghanistan, suppressing the fact that only 3000 were killed on 9-11 instead of 6000, keeping the number inflated until bombing was well under way.
I once sat next to an intelligence officer on the plane. He told me that operations were a mess, that former taxi drivers were pretending to have influence to garner bribes from the US.
Osama bin Laden is dead. That's good. But now so are some civilians. That's bad.
Why are we still there, please?
