There's no such thing as a Democratic Sarah Palin, and there won't be. (Roger H. Goun/Wikimedia Commons)
Über-wanker Richard Cohen discovers that Republican GOP candidates are morons (so far so good), then concludes that the Democrats will
inevitably follow with its own cast of idiots.
So far, the Palin effect has been limited to the GOP. Surely, though, there lurks in the Democratic Party potential candidates who have seen Palin and taken note. Experience, knowledge, accomplishment — these no longer may matter. They will come roaring out of the left proclaiming a hatred of all things Washington, including compromise. The movie had it right. Sarah Palin changed the game.
Moron.
Cohen apparently hasn't noticed politicians railing against Washington since ... forever! Heck, every capital of every state and every country gets similar treatment. But that kind of rhetoric has typically focused on corruption and disfunction, not an ideological hatred for the function of government.
So yeah, Democrats will rail against a do-nothing Washington D.C., not a do-too-much government. Big difference. And get rid of the filibuster and we can have D.C. run the way it should be—by majority rule. Elected officials can "compromise" their way to 50%+1.
But the day that Democrats embrace an anti-intellectual, anti-reality Sarah Palin-style candidate is the day we let the Dixiecrats back into our party.
And that just ain't gonna happen.
