Indeed.
Denmark, the world’s first nation to legalize same-sex unions in 1989, will introduce legislation tomorrow that will likely in June make it the eleventh country to officially allow gay marriage...
Though several same-sex marriage bills have been previously defeated in the Danish parliament, this new compromise bill is widely expected to pass, and should therefore take effect on June 15.
It seems that Denmark will be joining it's Scandinanvian neighbors in three short months as the
eleventh country to enact marriage equality. Quick, before you squirrel past the squiggle, can you name the current ten? Can you name them in order?
The Netherlands. Belgium. Spain. Canada. South Africa. Norway. Sweden. Portugal. Iceland. Argentina.
And let's not forget
Massachusetts. Vermont. Iowa. California, Connecticut, Washington DC., New Hampshire, New York. Mexico City.
And now Denmark.
Denmark ranks as having the world's highest level of income equality. The country has the world's seventh highest per capita income. It has frequently ranked as the happiest and least corrupt country in the world. In 2011, Denmark was listed 16th on the Human Development Index and 2nd on the Corruption Perceptions Index.
In June, it will be just that much happier.
