All over the Great Orange Blog today are stories about Mitt Romney abusing classmates so horrifically that it was called "evil" and "like Lord of the Flies" by one witness.
(sarcastic tone of voice) But let's face it - many of us were bullies or otherwise not well adjusted in high school, and we got over it. (/sarcasm)
But then there's the story about Seamus, his Irish Setter, who Romney put in a car-top carrier and traveled 1200 miles. That has earned Mitt a listing on two national animal cruelty registries. (sarcastic tone of voice) But he was a young man then, and let's face it, many of us committed stupid acts of cruelty when we were younger. (/sarcasm)
And when Romney was governor of Massachusetts, he battled against the state LGBT anti-bullying commission, eventually defunding it. (sarcastic tone of voice) But lots of governors full of compassion have to make difficult cuts during budget crisis, right? (/sarcasm)
And during this most recent campaign Romney has said he doesn't care about poor people and numerous other out-of-touch quotes. (sarcastic tone of voice) But all of us put our feet in our mouths from time to time, right? (/sarcasm)
And of course Romney's ad spending has been overwhelmingly negative, to the point where Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum both clearly cannot stand him. (sarcastic tone of voice) But negative ads work, and he's running for President, for Pete's sake! (/sarcasm)
No, not one of these incidents really paints Mitt's character.
By themselves.
Taken as a whole, along with his choice of career as a vulture capitalist, they paint a very disturbing picture. This man is weird, and in a don't-turn-your-back-on-him sort of way.
So, don't judge Willard M. Romney for what he did as a teenager. Judge him for a lifetime pattern of just not understanding that other people feel.
