George Will on ThisWeek this Sunday called the Wisconsin Recall elections the 2nd most important election this year. Big Corporate Money versus the working class, Oligarchy versus Democracy. To quote the Vice President "This is a Big Fuckin Deal" . . .
So it's time to put all the chips on the table.
I'm here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin today.
That's right, I'm in Wisconsin with my girlfriend/kossack IamNotaKochSucker to volunteer to help get out the vote. Some guys have girlfriends that buy them tickets to baseball games, my girlfriend buys me tickets to Wisconsin to help defend Democracy from Corporate America and Koch Industries. What can I say, I'm a lucky guy.
We arrived yesterday and got in 2-3 hours of canvassing voters and encouraging people to vote for Tom Barrett, we'll be going out again in a few hours to help out as much as we can today on election day.
More below the fold . . .
My girlfriend would have gone to Wisconsin anyway without me if we hadn't met, my girlfriend is a huge union supporter. Our rights are very important to her and she is steadfast in her support of worker's rights. I'm sure you can imagine why we get along so well. If you haven't read it yet, do check out her recent article Break The Backs of Unions in Wisconsin and The Rest Will Follow
I'm hoping to be able to lift a glass of some great micro-brewed Wisconsin beer and toast the downfall of Scott Walker at the end of this trip, and I'd be glad to do so in the company of some of the great friends from Wisconsin I have met here.
When we got to Wisconsin we jumped in a cab and talked to the cabbie about the recall elections. He told us he is voting for Barrett and he is giving his friends free rides to the voting booths all day today, then he charged us half price for the ride when we told him we were going to volunteer to get out the vote and recall Walker. Solidarity!
So we knocked on doors with help from WeAreWisconsin.org yesterday and had good results from it. Every little bit helps. I left the Union Kepi off and put on a StandWithWisconsin solidarity button and everywhere we go people are giving us a big thumbs up, there is an excitement in the air here today that tells me that we can win.
Now is the last push, if you can help phone bank and help get out the vote in any way, please do so. It is now or never. Let's do this.
Check out WeAreWisconisn.org for more info . . .
We will be at 701 National Avenue in Milwaukee where WeAreWisconsin has their office when we get done canvassing, if you are in the neighborhood stop by and maybe we can grab a pint of Spotted Cow to celebrate wasting millions of dollars of David Koch's money.
Peace and love to all
