Yesterday I had a political falling out with a family member, in this case, my brother over politics. My brother has always been a Republican, and he knows I have always been a Democrat. Over the past couple of times we have talked he has almost blown an artery usually over the subject of politics, and more specifically Democrats and/or Obama.
My brothers health is not very good and he has had a rough couple of years. Due to many circumstances, more likely all the surgeries he has had to deal with, he says due to the pain, he is not able to do very much, which basically means now his days are spent pretty much confined to his living room recliner while watching Fox News, it sure sounded like.
Yesterday I asked him if his wife ( my sister in law) was going to go through another knee replacement before her insurance expires in Feb. Thats when I seemed to hit his button. He started going off on Obamacare and said he thought our insurance situation was going to look like Canadas'.
And the conversation went downhill from there. He spewed out about 5-6 talking points from Fox News, the usual, "government takeover" of our healthcare, review panels which will decide insurance matters, the Democrats have *ucked the country so much now its unbelieveable. But the grand finale was he called President Obama a communist and socialist, which really hit a nerve with me, and said that we would find out if Obama wins relection, he will be free to do anything he wants so we had better look out. Its that fear factor that Fox News is SO good at distilling in the people who watch it, aren't they?.
Got to watch out, Obama is the boggie man......
so after getting really upset at this point I ended the conversation by telling him he had his opinion, and I had my opinion. I told my sister don't expect me to be talking to my brother anytime soon....
Normally I have a pretty hard shell, but when someone, even a family membe,r starts going off on my President or my party like that I will, stand up for myself.
It does make me wonder why they hate Obama so much. Even Chris Matthews on Hardball" had a segment on this yesterday...
I think unfortunately, race has got alot to do with it sad to say. I can't say for certain if my brother is racist, but I told my sister this morning in a conversation I felt my brother was becoming an "old angry white man." How sad. Can anyone relate to my story???
Sat Apr 05, 2014 at 11:25 AM PT: as mentioned before, my brother and I are now talking. But my brother still has a deep, deep, deep anger/resentment issue ( Obama Derangement Syndrome) going on about President Obama and the ACA. Just about everytime we do talk invariably the subject of the ACA comes up, through no interest on my part what so ever, and my brother will add some type of negative comment about the ACA. I have told my brother repeatedly, we CANNOT talk about politics. Obviously, it hasn't sunk in. His wife, my sister in law who has been trying to find some more affordable insurance now, is actually forbidden by my brother to go online and try to find any through Washingtons' health plan finder. How truly sad for her, because there is very affordable insurance waiting for her...
