Now Mitt, you didn't really think that we'd forget about your secret tax returns, just because you picked an Ultra Conservative, Ayn Rand, pretty face for your Medicare death squad, did you?
ABC news is reporting that Mitt asked for "several" years of tax returns from the VP candidates.
Romney Campaign asks for several years of returns.
It's a very short story, so here are the relevant quotes.
Mitt Romney requested “several” years of tax returns from his potential running mates, a senior adviser to the candidate said Saturday, suggesting that those considered for the ticket may have been required to reveal more financial documents that the candidate himself.
...
Several, by definition, implies more than two years.
...
In a briefing with reporters in Virginia Saturday, senior adviser Beth Myers, who was charged with headed the vice president selection process, declined to specify exactly how many years of tax returns were required,
Uh Oh, bad move Mittens. This issue won't come back to the front burner for awhile, but rest assured, it'll be back.
Now that Mittens has adopted (and now trying to run from) the Ryan budget which has another huge tax cut for the 1%, it's only fair to know how the people supporting this would benefit from their proposal. But now, Ryan's tax returns are fair game also, since it's his proposal!
Oh is this web about to get tangled. Since Joe Biden released a decade of his returns, it's only fair to ask Ryan to release a decade of his. But wait, if the VP candidate releases a decade of his, why wont Romney release more? So Ryan can't release more of his returns than his boss. Unless, he already has during the vetting process. But if Romney demanded more returns from his VP candidate than what he's willing to release to the American people, well that just makes him out to be an a$$hole who thinks he has the right to have things other Americans can't. And round and round we go.
This is just going to add a whole new dimension to Mitts tax returns. I think the Obama campaign will wait until they start ripping apart the Ryan budget bill, and when they come to the huge tax cut for the rich, Mitt's AND Ryan's tax returns will be right back in the mix. It may be after the conventions, but we haven't heard the last of Mitt's tax returns.
UPDATE: I see Yahoo news has picked up on this story, and Armando has it on the front page, so maybe this might become an issue quicker than I thought. How crazy would that be that the pick of Ryan ends up putting a spotlight on Mitts returns rather than changing the subject?
