Victory by the men's basketball team Sunday gave the United States its 46th and final gold medal in London, the most ever by Americans in a "road" Olympics.
The U.S. -- winners of 104 medals overall at these Olympics -- took home 45 golds from Paris in 1924 and Mexico City in 1968.
Only twice has the US won more than 46 Golds, both in games played at home...at the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Games (where the dominant Soviets boycotted) and the 1904 St. Louis Games where the USA completely dominated taking home 78 out of 96 possible Golds.
In London Team USA took home 104 total medals, the next closest was China with 87.
To Michael Phelps & Missy Franklin. Gabby Douglas & Aly Raisman. Ashton Eaton & Allyson Felix. Claressa Shields and Jennifer Suhr.
Yeah, I even tip my hat towards Lebron & Kobe for delivering the record-breaker. And all those who wore the stars and stripes in London.
Nicely done. Thank you.
NBC still sucks.
