Welcome, friends. The purpose of this regular series is to promote enthusiasm and action among Daily Kos members. Romney will very likely out-fundraise President Obama. However, we believe that we can still win if (1) we can remain competitive financially, and (2) we volunteer our time and energy (GOTV, canvassing, phonebanking, LTE, ...).

Hello, gang, welcome to another Sunday edition of ONN! You've no doubt heard that Paul Ryan has been selected as Romney's
distractionary sigh of relief running mate, and there have been many diaries on the subject since yesterday, but let's get to know Mr. Ryan better below the fold!
Paul Ryan goes well with 60 Minutes
A lot of righties think tonight's Romney/Ryan interview with 60 Minutes is some sort of coup d'etat, with Ryan 'slamming it out of the ballpark' with courageousy quotes like 'People aren't asking "where are the tax returns, they're asking where are the jobs." These are the same people who are oooooooooozing about Paul Ryan's P90X workouts on Capitol Hill. Because that's so relevant to all the college kids, middle-class families, and grandmas whose futures are on the line with an ideologue like Ryan taking the helm as VP.
Meanwhile, Twitter is up in arms about 60 Minutes cutting into Big Brother's start time...
Paul Ryan Is More Conservative than Any Liberal Is Liberal
By that we don't mean that he idolizes the most polarizing faux-philosopher of the last hundred years, Ayn Rand, an atheist and virtual anarchist who believed in nobody but herself and thought people and corporations should be completely left to their own devices—actually, that's all true, as he does idolize Ayn Rand and claims she is the reason he got into politics:
Ryan is an outspoken supporter of Rand and her work, saying that "The reason I got involved in public service, by and large, if I had to credit one thinker, one person, it would be Ayn Rand". --Wikipedia
But we're actually talking about Ryan's extreme voting record. Says the
Business Insider:
"Silver includes the following chart using the statistical system "DW-Nominate." This system concludes that Paul Ryan is about as conservative as Michele Bachmann, and farther from the center than any other VP candidate in the past century."
In other words,
Nate Silver did some kung fu number-crunching and found the following:
The most extreme VP candidate in 100 years? Totally my kind of VP guy.
Paul Ryan Wants Us To Take Romney's Word for It
Mitt Romney knows more about Paul Ryan’s taxes than America will.
Ryan told 60 Minutes Sunday that he gave Romney’s campaign “several” years of tax returns during the vetting process, but promised only to release two publicly, in keeping with the number Romney has promised to release.
[snip]
The 42 year-old congressman said he went through a “very exhaustive vetting process” before being selected as Romney’s running mate. He said the process was “confidential.” --TPM
In other words, SYFPH, America. Two years is all you're going to get, because that's enough for you people to understand something about their finances...
Paul Ryan Isn't Popular with the Elderly...or Romney's Advisors, for that matter
Headline from Miami this morning:
Ryan could be a drag on Romney in Florida
Headline from Buzzfeed just about now:
Romney Picked Ryan Over Advisers' Early Doubts
He's smart, young, attractive, likable, hard-working, a creature of the Hill, and has a vision for America your grandma...with such a "bold choice", what could possibly go wrong?
I don't know about you, but Romney & Ryan are not my idea of R&R!
