(4:46 pm EST the broadcast put up on MSNBC above.)
The Newtown school massacre victims were all shot multiple times with a rifle and suffered “devastating” wounds, Connecticut’s chief medical examiner said Saturday....
“Everybody’s death was caused by gunshot wounds and obviously the manner of death on all these cases have been classified as homicide,” Carver said.
He said that he personally performed seven autopsies and those children had between three and 11 wounds each. Two of them were shot at close range, the others at a distance.
....
“This is a very devastating set of injuries,” Carver said. “I believe everyone was hit more than once."
“I’ve been at this for a third of a century and my sensibility may not be the average man’s, but this is probably the worst I’ve seen.”

DISARM THE NRA
UPDATE TWO:
USE YOUR RAGE AND HORROR AND SADNESS AND FRUSTRATION TO DO SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.
Dr. Erich Bloodaxe is forming a new activist Daily Kos group to SHUT DOWN THE NRA
He describes the purpose of this newly forming group:
Shut Down the NRA (and Amend the 2nd Amendment) is a brand new group on site.
It is a group to document News of gun violence, to create a Community of gun violence prevention advocates, and to create a platform for Action to work towards breaking the hold of the NRA on politicians and changes to gun law that will actually result in significant, measurable decreases in American gun violence and fatalities. We will seek to identify prevention strategies from around the world and from within the military that are demonstrably linked to decreased gun violence, to create white papers for individual activist to use in talking points to spread via social media, when speaking to media, or to provide to legislators to try to shape legislation that addresses the keys to preventing gun violence, and eschew traditional approaches to 'gun control' that have no demonstrable statistical impact on such violence.
2) This is the kind of research that we need to be amassing and then using constructively:
List Of Congressional Candidates Who Accepted Donations From The NRA
We must start working on this problem. In memory of our own "Flush Rush" activist, Richard Myers, who died yesterday (the same day as the massacre;) let us honor his memory by becoming as persistent to this cause as he was to his. May he rest in peace.
UPDATE ONE:
As I stated in a comment downthread, I personally think that this discussion of the killer's mental state is a subterfuge by the NRA.
They want to push the idea that it is the mental illness of the shooter that is the problem. No doubt this guy has a mental problem, but I cringe when I hear this discussion because it is diluting the actual point:
THAT GUNS KILLED AND TORE UP THE BODIES OF THESE 5-6 YEAR OLD CHILDREN!
Don't let the discussion revert to 'oh he was sick with this or that'..... That is not the point. Not all violent crime of murder by gun in this country is committed by the mentally ill. But all gun crimes involve GUNS.
Keep the focus on the GUNS.
The NRA will battle to drag out a discussion of all his Dx's (diagnoses) to distance their policies from the crimes.
Don't let them do that. This time we won't let them do that.
The problem is the GUNS.
(And yes, we need better mental health; for all of us!)
