Democratic Rep. Frank Pallone intends to run for New Jersey's open Senate seat, sources told PolitickerNJ on Tuesday.
Gov. Chris Christie said earlier Tuesday that a special election will take place in October to fill the seat vacated by the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg, who died on Monday, and he will appoint someone to serve in the interim. The primary will take place on Aug. 13.
Just taking the temperature here.
I'll add constructive comments to the diary as they appear.
4:07 PM PT: I'll go with Pallone. I want to like Booker, I (9+ / 0-)
really do, but the Bain Capital remarks still cause me to be hesitant about getting behind him. Booker may excite the base but Pallone's the real deal.

4:10 PM PT: Booker's name recognition is through the roof (5+ / 0-)
by comparison. That burning-house thing was publicity gold (though I sincerely doubt he was thinking in those terms in the heat of the very hot moment).
If he's prepared to pander to the rightward shift of the Overton window, I can see why that would give kossacks pause ideologically.
But when you have to field a candidate, it's hard to resist the lure of one is charistmatic and already well-known.

4:11 PM PT: I think either would be a good senator (0+ / 0-)
Pallone probably a bit more, but I don't think he has a chance if he runs.
