The anti-gay venom continues to ooze out of Russia, much of it out of the mouth of prominent state TV news anchor and Deputy General Director of RTC (Russia's state TV and radio broadcasting company) Dmitry Kisilev. If you aren't familiar with the name, check out Steveningen's diary on the original controversy. From the diary:
Dmitri Kisilev who anchors Vesit, the leading news show in Russia, delivered a chilling rant yesterday (please see update below) on a competing state-controlled television program that should put to rest any doubt that the Russian government is not content with simply silencing their LGBT citizens, but is actively involved in whipping up fervently anti-gay hatred against them. This is not just some crank newscaster spouting his own personal animus. Kisilev also happens to be the Deputy General Director of the Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, according to a Google translation of his bio.
I think that just imposing fines on gays for homosexual propaganda among teenagers is not enough. They should be banned from donating blood, sperm. And their hearts, in case of the automobile accident, should be buried in the ground or burned as unsuitable for the continuation of life.
What kind of a person even
thinks of something that mind-bogglingly disgusting?
Amazingly (or not), Kisilev later claimed in an interview that he is not homophobic. Well, of course--what part of burying or burning a gay person's heart indicates an irrational fear and hatred of gay people? Silly us. In fact, he not only claimed he's not a homophobe, but he cited his gay friends. I couldn't make this shit up if I tried.
In the interview, Kiselev flatly denied any allegations of homophobia, saying that he has enough gay friends not to be labeled a homophobe.
He pointed out that the Russian public actually failed to understand that in 2012 he was speaking about legal medical practices in the Russian Federation that unfortunately are still lagging behind internationally-recognized organ donation legislation.
“This is internationally-recognized practice and I called for nothing unusual. This is a norm in the US, Europe, Japan, in the Arab countries – practically everywhere, but not in Russia.”
There are no words for this monster.
It only gets worse. Now, Kisilev is back in the spotlight, apparently trying to outdo his previous comments. If he hasn't succeeded, he has come pretty damn close.
In a radio interview, Kisilev was asked if he was aware of recent acts of violence against LGBT people in Russia. You know, like the incident in which 23-year-old Vladislav Tornovoi was raped with a beer bottle and brutally murdered because he was perceived to be gay. Or how about the neo-Nazi vigilantes who are luring LGBT youth over the Internet and then torturing them on video (horrifying video at link--I still haven't watched it, and I really don't plan to) in an operation they call "Occupy Pedophilia." There is no shortage of examples of gay people feeling the brunt of homophobia in Russia, an environment only reinforced by the recent anti-gay legislation coming out of Moscow.
Kisilev's response? Anything indicating empathy or compassion of any kind? You know the answer. Here's what he had to say:
Our [Russian] problem with homosexuals is that they behave in a provocative, victim like way. They deliberately provoke situations, so that they become victims. Nobody prevents them from loving each other the way they want to. They are aggressively foisting minority’s values on majority. It is likely that society would counteract this. Naturally, right? In various ways, including brutal ones. Since they are brutally foisting this [on others]. Wanna fight? Get it, then. So what?
I regret this situation. But it seems to me that according to our tradition of our national culture we need to accept the existence of homosexuality in our country; great, nobody is persecuting them, there is no job discrimination. But one should not behave in a provocative way. And if somebody is inciting these people to behave in such a way, that’s irresponsible.
And the fact that everywhere [in the world] their hearts are being burned, in other words, cremated, and being earthed, in other words, buried, well, understandably, that’s the way it is, that’s an existing practice.
Why should I be ashamed? Think about it. In fact, those who incite these people to participate in gay parades should be ashamed.
That's right--that young man
deserved to be raped by that beer bottle and then murdered in cold blood. Those LGBT youth who are being fucking
lured by these neo-Nazi gangs are the
real provocateurs.
What a sick fuck. And that doesn't even begin to suffice as a description of this man.
