Received today Email from Mazie Hirono asking for contributions to Cory Booker's general election campaign.
First reaction: Booker has much more money, and a much bigger lead in the polls, than he has loyalty to Democratic values on several important issues. Meanwhile, numerous more-loyal candidates and causes are severely under-funded.
Second reaction: clicked to unsubscribe from this distribution list.
Mazie seems to believe that she can gain friends by fundraising for Cory. Maybe unsubscribing will alert her and Cory to the possibility that, without careful setting of priorities, a Senator can also lose friends.
Thu Aug 15, 2013 at 1:02 AM PT: Thanks for sincere and useful comments, which have helped me clarify my thinking as follows:
Question: What is the best thing that Booker could do now to redeem himself for his television interview comments that the Obama re-election campaign’s private equity-related attacks on Romney and Bain were “nauseating”?
Answer: It would go a long way if Booker (instead of expanding his already more-than-necessary war chest), joined and generated large private equity contributions to a fundraiser for Buono’s current campaign against Christie. Any ‘loser taint’ that Booker might be afraid of picking up from Buono would be greatly outweighed by the value of showing some solidarity with other Democratic candidates and some resistance to Christie’s policies and ambitions.
