Update: This actually happened back in June of 2013. I just heard about it, and didn't consider it was an old story.)
So it's a thing now in Texas. You can kill an "escort" if she refuses to have sex with you. OK. I didn't think my mind could be blown any further, but there you go.
"... he was trying to retrieve stolen property: the $150 he paid Frago. It became theft when she refused to have sex with him or give the money back, they said."
According to the paper, the personally imposed death penalty in cases of "theft" at night is legal.
Here are links to two articles with more details on the story:

I don't even know what to think any more; uncharacteristically, I don't even have any more to say. Well, actually I do, below the fold.
First is that the penalty for theft is not death.
Actually, that's second. The first is that theft hasn't even been established.
I mean, the woman came by the man's apartment and spent some time with him. Per a dictionary:
es·cort (skôrt) A person, often a prostitute, who is hired to spend time with another as a companion
Well, she did drop by and they did spend time together. Absent a contract specifying the amount of time, it seems she actually performed the escort service as advertised.
So why was he acquitted instead of being convicted of murder?
Sadly, I have no answers, but thought this latest travesty of justice should be shared.
