Good afternoon, good people of Orange.
Today is my turn in what our illustrious managing editor, Barb Morrill, calls "the lion's den." I am here to answer your questions to the best of my ability, so help me God.
I've been working here at Daily Kos since 2006, and I've been executive editor of the site since 2007. This is a floaty, vague kind of job at times, unlike that of the hands-on managing editor position which requires moment-by-moment scheduling of what goes up on the front page.
For the most part, as executive editor, I'm looking at the big picture of editorial planning, mostly for paid staff, but also coordinating with the feature writers on content, policy, resources and ideas for long-term topics. Since I came to Daily Kos in 2004 as a reader and commenter before I began to write diaries, I'm also aware of the huge pool of talent and resources we have in the community, and I try to stay on top of what's popping in the diaries.
I coordinate with the other departments on work flow—social media and activism on a day-to-day basis—and in the long-term with our great tech team, which is always proposing tools and improvements to the writing process (both for the community and the front page).
So fire away with your questions, Orange people. I'm ready and willing, and if I'm not able, I'll try and point you to the right person to answer your queries.
