House Speaker John Boehner on October 15, 2013
So House Republicans leaders just held a press conference ... and it was, shall we say, confusing. For example, one of the first things out of House Speaker John Boehner's mouth was this:
HOUSE SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER: There a lot of opinions about which direction to go. There are no decisions about exactly what we will do.
And then Majority Leader Eric Cantor took the podium and said this:
MAJORITY LEADER ERIC CANTOR: I think it's been very clear all along what we Republicans in the House have wanted.
Uh, no, it's not. Unless you're admitting that what you want is mayhem, I don't think anybody really has a clue. Just ask Speaker Boehner. He's the guy who just called a three minute long press conference in which he said absolutely nothing. He didn't even say if the House would vote on the proposal that it put forward. But even though "no decisions" have been made, I guess everyone should rest assured that "it's been very clear all along" what they want. Or something.

8:35 AM PT: Per the Elephant Whisperer:

Top sources tell me House plan is going to pass, but House proposal discussed at conference WILL be tweaked, preview won't come to floor
If this is accurate, toss out earlier mishmash we heard about the House plan: They will move it further to right, which basically means it's DOA, and the question will be the same as it always has: When, if ever, will Boehner and Republicans allow a vote on reopening government and avoiding default without poison pills attached?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
