“And now it’s time for one last bow
Like all your other selves
Eleven’s hour is over now
The clock is striking twelve’s”
(Clara, opening lines of the trailer)
So begins the latest BBC Trailer for the 'The Time of the Doctor', the ultimate Matt Smith episode and the 2013 Christmas Special, which will be broadcast on Christmas Day, on BBC One at 7.30 pm 9 (local time), and on BBC America at 9.00 pm Eastern/8 Central.
We all knew this was coming, and its almost here. With the launch of this video clip we can grasp a few more details. Now we can see Tasha Lem (played by Orla Brady) announcing that 'the siege of Trenzalore has begun'. Lem is a significant figure from the Doctor's past, so we are told, but they had better show us a lot of 'back story' fast, or it will be difficult to fit her into the puzzle.
The Silence are there, of course, the maniacal Daleks, Cybermen and a Weeping Angel - quite a climax. One of the lines, 'the Doctor has entered the trap' indicates that this a the ultimate battle - that he can't win. The Doctor and Clara are seen entering the festively-decked 'Christmas Town' on Trenzalore (it won't be a Doctor Who Christmas Special without appropriate set dressing!). Before this we know, already that Clara is 'rescued' from a family Christmas by the Doctor, so she can accompany him on this final trip, but it has now been revealed that HE helps Clara cook the Christmas dinner!
Steven Moffat has stated that, 'Matt Smith is in almost every scene', so we are in for a whale of a farewell performance, folks! I liked the way that the Doctor defied his foes, 'If you want my life - come and get it!' It reminded me very much of his ringing speech from the center of Stonehenge during 'The Pandorica Opens'.
I can hardly wait to see how this one plays out, and how Capaldi makes his entrance, too!
To borrow one of my favorite French expressions.....'Allons-y!'
