Why don't we have a Seattle-specific Kossack group? That was the question that got me in trouble to begin with. There is Koscadia, a group based in Portland that includes Washington State in the regions it covers. And there is a Seattle Area Kossacks group that has had only 1 diary posted in 3 years.
But seriously, Seattle & Western Washington are among the most progressive areas of the country. Do we not have a group because we are too spoiled here? I think not. Keeping statewide offices in Democratic hands is a constant challenge, and our State Senate has recently been taken over by turn-again turncoats like Senator Rodney Tom. No, we need to be organized more now than ever.
Seattle should also be leading the charge on progressive issues. Are we ashamed that SeaTac stole the mantle of leadership on the $15/hour minimm wage? Nope, but Seattle should be the next up to bat on that issue, as well as many other issues such as civil rights, carbon emissions/climate change, transit and density just to name a few.
I'm going to kick this new group off with a very short diary before I run to work. Which means I will not be able to monitor or respond to comments. But I did want to get the ball rolling.
Reply in the comments on what you think the Seattle & Puget Sound Kossacks should be doing or championing. And send group mail if you want to be added. I promise I'll be back on later to keep the ball rolling.
UPDATED WITH ACTION ITEMS!
Please send me a private message with a contact email address you would like to use. I will then add you to the DKos group and send an invite to an external email list for faster communication, at the advice of several others who have started up groups.
Also, for a first meetup, I would love to make it happen the weekend after New Years when peeps should be back! So, that's what I'm going to drive towards over the next couple weeks.
