Welcome to Thursday Coffee Hour. This is an open topic thread so help yourself to the goodies and sit a spell and let us know what is new with you. I have been making jewelry for years. Lately I have had a helper in Pixie. Trying to design a necklace with kitty help goes like this.
I start by shopping at Michael's or A.C. Moore where I look at the various things available to make jewelry. Lately I have been designing a lot of Steampunk jewelry. Generally I start with centerpiece items and then look at the smaller items to add to it. I have been doing a lot of jewelry on chains so I look at those. As I look I can see ideas for the finished product in my mind. I make my selections and take them home.
I have a carryall that I put the makings for Steampunk jewelry in. I have the items separated into plastic bags. I have other carriers for the regular jewelry. First task is getting Pixie out of the middle of the new things I have dumped on the bed. Get out the plastic bags. Move Pixie off of the plastic bags. Take the items off of the cardboard and put them in the proper bag. Get Pixie out of the wastebasket where she is exploring what I threw away.
Look at the items I have available and decide what I want to use and get them out. Get Pixie off of the items I want to use. I start by choosing the chain. Stop Pixie from batting the chain so I can cut it to the proper length. I usually start by putting the centerpiece on the chain. Get Pixie off of the centerpiece so I can put it on the chain.
The centerpiece is finally on. Move Pixie off of the rest accompanying pieces. Try to find where she has batted some of the accompanying pieces. Give up and pull more pieces out of the bags. Try to stop Pixie from batting the dangling pieces. Put the dangling pieces back on the necklace that Pixie has pulled off.
Grab something to drink. Pick up Pixie who is now lying on the necklace. Look to see where the pieces she has pulled off might be and put them back on.
Finally get the piece the way you want it and photograph it and put it in a bag with the rest of the jewelry. Pull Pixie out of the cupboard so I can put the bag of jewelry away so Pixie doesn't play with them.
And that is how to make jewelry with a cat's help. It is a wonder I have anything to sell. ;-) A reminder with Valentine's Day coming up this is a great time to buy local from you fellow Kossacks at Kos Katalog. Kos Katalogue is an online catalog of businesses owned by people who cherish and promote liberal values. These are some of my Steampunk line made with loving care and help from a Pixie. You can find my jewelry for sale here.
