Another day, another example of the Christie administration using the hurricane Sandy funds for their personal piggy bank.
This from the local NBC affiliate:
"Gov. Chris Christie's administration is again facing questions about how Sandy aid was distributed in New Jersey after it was revealed $4.8 million in relief funds went to help build an apartment tower in New Brunswick, a town that saw relatively little storm damage."
New Brunswick ranked 188 in the list of towns damaged by Sandy. Belleville who won the 6 million dollar grant for a new senior center was 254 on the list. The New Brunswick developers of the apartment complex is a company called Baraii whose investors includes Shaquille O'Neal who publicly endorsed Christie. This doesn't mean that he was endorsing the governor for this perk. However, it does show a disturbing pattern of rewarding friends and ignoring the real victims of hurricane Sandy.
The problem right now for the distribution of Sandy funds is there is no transparency or accountability. (Thanks to a recent Christie veto.) I am hoping that as more and more of these stories reach the public's awareness that this will change. It has to.
I'd embed the video from the NBC report but, alas, I don't know how.
