It looks like the farm bill might have shook loose congress a little bit to pass some legislation. There is a lot going on or coming up just now regarding public lands.
Some Wilderness areas in Nevada, and land in Montana protected from oil drilling, a few dozen thousand acres of sand dunes in Michigan for Wilderness, and some more smaller parcels in Nevada.
Above N Six Shooter mid 80s, BLM just outside Canyonlands god knows what sort of designation it has now. I hope it's still a long walk, ought to keep the riff raff off.
There's also a bunch of bills known as "The Sportsman's Bill" which was supposed to pass first thing this session, or last thing last congress, but got a universal (except for Susan Collins) thumbs down from the Republicans because they were still pissed over The NRA's neutral position on Tester's re-election. Every Dem except Feinstein voted yes. If you hate people who shoot guns this is a good one to get all hurt about.
Lastly there is the public lands access bill whatever it's called. It's to unlock the checkerboarded public lands that we are all kept out of presently. Some Kossacks were opposed to this one for reasons I couldn't fathom. Presently the land is only available to large landowners who don't own it but own adjacent lands, the bill would open it up to public use.
Also a bill to salvage logs from the Yosemite fire, open Yellowstone to boaters, and a couple anti public lands bills from Utah Republicans.
Maybe some good will come from some of them.
Hat tip to HCN doing it's best imitation of Mother Jones.
