“If they want to talk about substantive issues in Texas in this governor’s race, let’s talk about tax policy, regulatory policy, legal policies. But to go focus on this issue of a piece of legislation that already — that we already have laws that protect it, is nonsense,” Perry said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Tuesday.Nonsense and not a substantive issue. Because we already have laws that protect equal pay, whereas apparently we do not have laws on tax policy, regulatory policy, or legal policies.
The thing is, Rick, sometimes you have one law, but times have changed or it turns out it's not working as well as possible, and you go back to the same issue, even though there's a law about it already, and you make the law stronger. Like, for instance, if you oppose women having control over their bodies, you might say "yes, we already have a forced ultrasound law, but we would also like to have a law that closes most of the abortion providers in the state." And if you are a woman who would like a better chance at being paid fairly, you might say "yes, it is illegal to discriminate and pay me less than my male coworkers, but being as it still happens routinely, I would also like to be able to find out what my coworkers make without employer retaliation and know that if I discover discrimination, my employer might actually have to pay."
Crazy talk, I realize.
