"According to the information provided, the out of state registration is more recent than your Louisiana registration."
I last lived in Georgia in 2005. When I came back to Louisiana, it somehow slipped my mind (between the brain tumor and the craniotomy) to call the Secretary of State of Georgia to have my registration canceled.
So far, I have made 2 phone calls. That's two more calls than most people would be willing to make. This tactic works. Nothing is resolved yet. I am waiting for a call back from the election commission in Georgia. When I contact them, I am instructed to have them fax a cancellation of my registration in Georgia to the Calcasieu Parish Registrar of Voters. I will then request a confirmation from the Parish Registrar that the fax was received and that I am in no danger of being purged from the rolls.
"It is unlawful for a Louisiana citizen to be or remain registered to vote in more than one residence at any one time, La. R.S.18:101B"
I just discovered that I have been voting illegally in Louisiana for 9 years now. VOTER FRAUD! (voter registration fraud?)
"We have matched your name and date of birth or last four digits of your social security number in an annual comparison with other state voter registration databases."
This method (even if it was truly a good faith effort to prevent illegal voting) targets younger voters and students -- the population most likely to move from state to state.
I have sent emails to Senator Mary Landrieu and to the Louisiana Democratic Party. The Democratic majority in the Senate is directly threatened.
I WILL vote but thousands of others will be disenfranchised.
Wed May 28, 2014 at 1:03 PM PT: I spent the afternoon at the Calcasieu Registrar's office. Three very professional women worked the phones and the fax machines for about an hour. They contacted the Georgia Secretary of State, the Elections Commission, and the Baldwin County registrar.
I learned that there exists an OSC (out-of-state comparison) report dated May 15, 2014. 27 states participate in this survey. On the Georgia end, it turns out that I was purged from the rolls in February 2014 due to being inactive for 2 years. I had been inactive for 9+ years.
I first registered in Louisiana in 1987 according to the OSC report. The registrar in Louisiana has my current address but it appears that where I thought I re-registered in 2005, it was entered as a simple change of address.
My situation is resolved but 27 states are using improperly maintained voter rolls to issue challenges.
