This is good news from AP:
FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Police say the FBI is taking over the investigation of a suburban St. Louis police officer who fatally shot an unarmed teenager.
Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson tells The Associated Press that he was informed Monday that the FBI was going to take over the investigation into the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown. Jackson says he welcomes the move.

The police department in Ferguson, Missouri would not be a credible group to investigate themselves in the wake of this horror. There is some speculation that they were already trying to foment rioting there as a means of distraction from the actual murder of this innocent young man.

It would have been St. Louis County investigating, not the Ferguson Police Department itself, had the Feds not stepped in.
Update 2:
More from TomP in the comments:
The FBI will open a parallel investigation into the fatal shooting of Michael Brown, 18, by Ferguson police on Saturday.
County Executive Charlie Dooley made the announcement in a late-morning press conference Monday in Clayton.
He promised the process would be open but not quick.
"We're asking all the public to be calm, be patient," Dooley said.
St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar says the FBI investigation will be a parallel investigation.
"The bureau will take a lot of the information we have developed already through our investigation," Belmar said. They wil take that investigation and they may do their own interviews and take a look at the evidence themselves."
"We will share our information with Prosecutor McCulloch's office and at the same time with the FBI," Belmar said.
