Looking to beat the post-midterm blues and do some good at the same time?
Blogger Elana Kopelvich has a good idea. Find a farm sanctuary to support:
Sponsor an animal at your local farm sanctuary
Farm sanctuaries have been around for decades, but more and more have popped up in the last few years. As I mentioned in an earlier post, their power extends beyond helping the animals that live on their properties. These places are inspiration points where people can look into the eyes of a living an animal and connect their “food product” to its source.
They are also education resources, and in a lot of cases, a great place for people who need help to find purpose and peace. Google your local farm sanctuary and contact them for a visit. If there isn’t one close by, check out one of these:
Leilani Farm Sanctuary (Haiku, Hawaii)
The Gentle Barn (Santa Clarita, California)
Peaceful Prairie (Deer Trail, Colorado)
Animal Sanctuary (various locations)
If you're able to visit a farm sanctuary, you'll enjoy some beautiful scenery, and you just might make some friends, of various species. And you might even get to kiss a donkey - or your new spouse (yes, people get married at farm sanctuaries). If there's no farm sanctuary close to home, you might be able to find one near your next vacation destination. Farm sanctuaries throughout the world have become popular for voluntourism opportunities and as visitor attractions.
