Right now there's a diary near the top of the recommended list about the shooting death of Rekia Boyd, by Dante Servin, an off-duty Chicago police officer, using his un-registered gun.
Unfortunately, like most of the media, the diary is putting most of the blame on the judge, and his ruling. But that's not who's really to blame.
Anita Alavarez is the infamous State's Attorney of Cook County (Chicago). She has a terrible reputation in Chicago. Don't believe me, watch the 60 minutes about her and innocent, yet incarcerated black males.
Anyway, she is the one who made sure they only brought "Involuntary manslaughter" charges against Servin who was arguing with a group of people from inside his car. He proceeded to shoot at the entire group at least 5 times.
Here's why you shouldn't blame judge Dennis Porter. If the judge finds Dante Servin guilty of only involuntary manslaughter then he would only get a couple years at most in jail. That's dirty shit for what really happened.
The judge wasn't going to play ball. He's trying to send a message to the State's Attorney of Chicago.
The media and most people are missing the message. Yes, Servin walks, and that's an injustice. But the way the prosecution brought the case already was too much of an injustice for the judge to play along.
