Just a very short informative diary for those of us that live in North Carolina...... No more Ultra Sound requirement.
The Supreme Court rejected an appeal from the state of North Carolina that revived the practice and requirement for North Carolina abortion providers to show and describe with an invasive Ultra sound the details before an abortion.
The justices on Monday left in place an appeals court decision that said the 2011 North Carolina law was "ideological in intent" and violated doctors' free-speech rights.
The North Carolina law would have required abortion providers to display and describe the ultrasound even if the woman refused to look and listen — a mandate that the court found particularly troublesome.
The Guttmacher Institute says North Carolina is among 23 states, mostly in the South and the Midwest, that passed laws dealing with the administration of ultrasounds by abortion providers.
Justice Antonin Scalia voted to hear the appeal.
The war on women in North Carolina took a major defeat today: Tomorrow, who knows what will happen.... Raleigh has demonstrated that it is always full of surprises, and not in a favorable fashion.
Forward Together, Not One Step Back!
Be careful out there.
10:17 AM PT: Thank you all for reading my diary and commenting and Rec'ing.
I wish to add that I hope this Supreme Court decision serves to act as a legal vehicle for appeal for other states that have this draconian practice on the books, and maybe we just might get some justice and relief from those that constantly wish to keep our "better half’s" (my opinion), our mothers and daughters in the last century with their misogynist views and immature thinking. In full disclosure, I feel very strongly about this, and other topics regarding women in our society, and around the world even though I am a guy. It is because I was raised by a single parent (my Mom), and had the exposure and opportunity to watch her struggles, and listened to her wise words about what it was like being a Union supporting workingwomen, raising a child in our society through out my life till she passed away. A very strong influence, to say the least coupled with my Grandmother and supportive and very close Aunt who I also considered another parent: An extended family as they call it now a days… All were very strong women in their own right. All were successful in their own right. I now am grateful to be married and have a close friend and an equally strong and brilliant women in my life in which we will be celebrating 25 years of very happy marital bliss, tomorrow. In conclusion, I.M.H.O.: There should never be any second-class citizens of any sex, race, creed, sexual orientation or religion in any society, ever.
