This Sunday is Atheist Solidarity Day, so I figured I would show some solidarity. Gene Roddenberry was someone that I admired growing up. His vision of the future showed that even if you got a utopia, it was flawed. Humans were still flawed, there was still corruption, and as we learn, we grow past certain things. Even the show Andromeda, as flawed as it was, showed even utopian worlds don’t last. Corruption always sneaks into power. Sadly, the optimism of Roddenberry is gone from television. However, the most important thing I learned from Roddenberry, is that you can remain hopeful even if you question the existence of God.
Christianists, Fox News, and the other cultists don’t understand that you don’t have to have a god to find peace. They tell you things like “atheists are angry” or “atheists have a hole in their soul for where Jesus should be.”
I can tell you firsthand, that is not true.
Sometimes there is a hole in your life, and you know what? Some people find they need religion to survive. However, when you bully people to believe what you do, you’re just an @$$hole.
Atheists are bullied and that is unAmerican.
So this Sunday, feel free to question the universe, find hope in what makes you, you, and go out with some non-believers and show some solidarity.
Share if you agree.
