to the Bernie Sanders campaign. Actually, it was more like 13% with shipping charges. I ordered 5 bumper stickers, a t-shirt, and pitched in $5 cash. I'm pretty sure I've never contributed to a political campaign before. I prefer to spend what money I can't afford on causes rather than people running for office.
The reason I contributed to Bernie Sanders' campaign is because I believe that he gives a shit about me and the rest of us who make up the folks earning at or less than the median income in this country. For those of you who are math challenged that is, by definition of median, 50% of us.
I like his straightforwardness. I like his policy proposals. If you had told me a year ago that my first political candidate contribution would be for an old white guy, I'd have laughed you out of the room. I'd have been wrong.
I'm giving to Bernie because I think he'll spend my money wisely, not because I think he "needs" it for a floor of hotel rooms, as someone suggested to me in a recent comment. I think Bernie understands what this country needs.
Wouldn't it be so freakin' cool if even a tenth of the people reading this gave a tenth of what they expect to earn this week to the Sanders' campaign?
Earns to the Berns!
