I don't know why I'm stunned, but Trump's vicious, unwarranted attack on Huma Abedin was just horrifying.
The gist of his attack was that.... well, let's see.... Huma Abedin is married to Anthony Weiner who is a sleazebag, therefore she MUST be blabbing all those government secrets to her husband, who is a sleazebag, because he just took a job with a PR company.
I'm sure this will resonate with the group of people - I'm not sure how to describe them - who kiss The Donald's ring, especially after they find out she is a Muslim. This is the kind of over-the-top, unwarranted, personal slam that is the red meat they salivate for, and our future Maximum-Leader-For-Life certainly knows how to satisfy the crowds in the coliseum, doesn't he?
Trump seems to sense that he has to continue to out-do himself, get ever more outlandish, plumb the depths of what is possible to say, in order to pump up his ratings... err, poll numbers. As his flame burns higher and higher, it engulfs more of the Republican Party, which is in a total panic about what to do about him.
His out-of-control trajectory is rather entertaining, and the way it is tearing the Republican Party to pieces is absolutely fantastic, but his attack on Huma Abedin this evening left me stunned and angry. It is beneath contempt, and I just hope Hillary will respond with a statement that expresses the outrage of all reasonable people.
I'm not even going to let myself hope that any of the gaggle of other Republican candidates will say anything negative about this latest outrage.
Cheers.
BTW, don't get me wrong: I'm not supporting Anthony Wiener - he messed up, several times, and paid a high price for his transgressions. Going after his wife, who stood by him, and making fun of the fact that she obviously loves him, is just beyond the pale.
