President Jimmy Carter held another short press conference at
The Carter Center in Atlanta this past week. During the discussion, Mr. Carter told reporters that he had finished his second cancer treatment with a
breakthrough drug, and was feeling no ill effects. The
new drug for advanced Melanoma is called Keytrude. It was approved by the FDA/Food And Drug Administration on September 4, 2014. The Carters expect to hear positive results soon. In his pleasant and positive way, the president smiled and joked that the only inconvenient side effect of the treatment was that it required him to drink 84 ounces of liquid each day.
“Instead of getting productive work done, I spend a lot of time in the restroom,” he said.
Michael Alison Chandler/Washington Post reports the
The Carter Center was a predominant topic during the media conference. The Center is dedicated to peace, human rights and health. It was founded by President Carter and former
First Lady Rosalynn Carter in 1982.
Both president Carter and Mrs. Carter were asked what they felt was their biggest accomplishment. Mrs. Carter, a hard-working advocate for mental health, talked about the progress being made to reduce the stigma of mental health. President Carter remarked: I’m proud I was able to lead this country in a peaceful way. And indeed he did keep peace. During his presidential term, Carter says, "We never dropped a bomb - We never went to war."
The United States and the world are now embracing the Carters like never before and the credit and recognition is long overdue. There is a new Facebook Page that was created in late August. In a little over three weeks, the page has garnered over 53,000 'Likes' with a reach of several millions. Many members are verbally thankful for the he page for educating them on the many great works President Carter has accomplished before, during and after his presidency. One very big commitment President Carter has made was to speak out against religious hypocrisy to help alleviate the abuse of women worldwide.

Former first lady Rosalynn Carter choked up as she thanked so many people for the outpouring of support and prayers.
“In spite of what's going on, it's been kind of wonderful just to know we have that kind of support, and also Jimmy's attitude is helping,” Rosalynn Carter said.
