GOP Eyeing Social Security Reforms In Budget Deal.
This is where the difference matters to me. How Clinton responds to this deal is going to decide if I vote for her.
My mother in law is dependent on SS disability (severe long term mental damage due to having such fragile diabetes) and if this 'deal' even comes close to touching her then not only will I never forgive the Obama administration but I will have a very difficult time ever trusting the Democratic party again.
I heard what Sanders had to say about this on Rachel tonight and it was enough to almost make me jump to supporting him. I better hear hell fire and brimstone threatened by Clinton if this deal makes cuts to SS disability or I am absolutely forever finished with her.
I know it's not very big picture of me to be a single issue voter, but this issue goes to the heart of the Democratic party. At least as I understand it. I am a Democrat not for the middle class, but as a member of the middle class reaching out to those less fortunate who need our help.
I was one of those less fortunate and the middle class reached out to help me. So was my wife. I was a foster child. She grew up in a trailer depending on welfare. Now I am a software engineer and she is a grad student on her way to being a professor.
THAT is the power of the party of the people working.
That is the party I joined.
If we aren't looking out for the least of us, what are we doing?
We're just relatively spoiled westerners looking out for our own selfish interests.
I don't know about anyone else, but this is a purity test I demand a candidate pass if I am going to vote for them.
Cause it's not even a purity test. It's a basic human decency test. You don't take away what little safety net disabled people have. You don't do it. Not if you are a good person.
I'm looking at you too, President Obama! You better be ready for your sixth veto if this deal passes!
Mon Oct 26, 2015 at 8:42 PM PT: For the record, I am voting for Hillary, unless she loses my vote. I have loved Sanders for years, but I am voting for Hillary.
But that doesn't mean that I am going easy on her on this or any issue. If I have learned anything in the last 6 1/2 years it's that this party is only as strong as it's members demand it must be.
For my vote and my voice a candidate must fiercely protect SS.
