Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D. CT):
Sen. Chris Murphy (D. CT)
If the Senate we have now won't stand up to the NRA on extraordinarily popular issues like expanding background checks, then we need to elect senators who are willing to do the job.
And that has to start with replacing Senator Marco Rubio.
In 2013, Senator Rubio sided with the NRA when he voted against background checks. Last week, he did it again. He has a stellar rating from the NRA and is a frequent speaker at their events.
The good news is, Senator Rubio is running against Florida Congressman Patrick Murphy, a candidate who will vote for universal background checks, limits to high-capacity magazines, and to keep assault weapons out of the hands of dangerous people. This is one of the closest races in the country, and that's why I have to ask:
Can I count on you to join me in making a $5 contribution to Patrick Murphy's U.S. Senate campaign as a way of saying if the Senate won't act to change our gun laws, we will elect a Senate that will.
Our democracy does not allow for our elected officials to be so far out of step with the views and values of their constituents for very long. Marco Rubio is out of step, and we have a real opportunity to replace him with a candidate who will stand with the overwhelming majority of Americans who have had ENOUGH of the epidemic levels of gun violence plaguing our country.
Every best wish,
Chris Murphy
U.S. Senator, Connecticut
