Or Why I agree with Bernie about Voting for Hillary and doing all we can to elect her and defeat Trump.
Well it’s been an interesting primary season here. Some thought it was over on 3/15; others thought it continued much longer. But however you measure it, it’s over.
The vast, vast majority of those who supported Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary will support Hillary Clinton in the general election, another new poll confirms. The Pew poll shows 85 percent of Sanders backers will support Clinton, while just 9 percent say they’ll back Donald Trump. That’s a significantly faster rallying effect than Democrats saw after their drawn-out primary in 2008.
WaPo
This poll was taken before Bernie said he would endorse Hillary. Apparently many more will vote for Hillary than Hillary supporters said they would vote for Obama at the same time in 2008.
So why such overwhelming support? The article above indicates that many still have issues with Hillary, but will vote for her anyway.
I can answer for myself only.
Hillary has moved left with the platform and been a gracious winner, a leader bringing the party together. I always expected to vote for Hillary if Bernie lost. Yes, there are some issue differences, but I agreed with Bernie last winter when he said on her worst day, Hillary is light years better than any of the Republican candidates.
Even if for the purposes of this post one were to accept the policy criticisms of Bernie during the primary, and I know many here do not, Hillary would be a moderate liberal who is stuck in a bad system. Hillary is a decent person and will be a good president.
Here’s a big reason. Donald Trump is a fascist unfit to be president. Hillary is no racist; Trump is. Hillary is no sexist; Trump is. Hillary cares about the poor and middle class. (we may disagree on the best policies, but I have no doubt that she cares). Trump is a con man, a narcisistic pig, a bully and racist, a sexist asshole.
As the poll shows, the vast, vast majority of Bernie supporters already decided to vote for Hillary BEFORE Bernie formally endorsed and before he campaigns with her and for her. In other words, those numbers may go up and the lack of enthusiasm down. When we get to November, there will be an enthusiastic group of voters for Hillary who voted for Bernie in the primaries. There will be turnout. And the party will be unified. (While there may be issue differences at times, we will be together to elect Hillary and a Dem House and Senate.)
So when you see noise on blogs, remember that about 13 million voted for Bernie and a “yuge” amount will vote for Hillary.
My title takes the campaign slogans from Bernie and Hillary and tuns them into one slogan.
We are Stronger Together While We Build a Future to Believe In.
Hillary, Barack, Joe, Bernie, Bill, Elizabeth, and so many more will be united to elect Hillary Clinton the next president.
