It’s not much but I’ll take it:
Clinton’s meetings with the remaining vice-presidential candidates are continuing: She has met with or is expected to meet soon with US Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey; US Representative Xavier Becerra of California; Julian Castro and Tom Perez, who both serve in President Obama’s Cabinet; and James G. Stavridis, a retired four-star Navy admiral who currently works at Tufts University, at her Washington home. She will also campaign Thursday alongside another potential running mate, US Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia, in his home state. Warren had initially handed over paperwork and met with the Washington lawyer overseeing Clinton’s vice-presidential search.
From the same NY Times article:
Two Democrats briefed on the invitation to Warren, however, cautioned that Clinton had not yet made a decision about a running mate and that asking Warren to take the stage on the first night did not preclude her from being tapped as the vice-presidential nominee.
Warren and other individuals who received invitations Tuesday to address the Philadelphia convention were told that their speaking times were subject to change depending on who was selected for vice president, according to the two Democrats, one with ties to Clinton and the other to Warren, who both spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss convention planning.
But even Warren’s allies are now increasingly skeptical that she will join the ticket as the famously cautious Clinton enjoys a steady lead in the polls over Donald Trump and eyes Democrats who are less dynamic than Warren but would not overshadow her on the campaign trail or in the White House.
Many recent articles have suggested Tom Perez has a better chance of being picked than Becerra, partly because he is a career bureaucrat with no political constituency and would therefore not be likely to hold his own political ambitions or goals that might conflict with Clinton. I hope it’s not true, however, I know that is just my opinion, and I know there are a lot of people who like Tom Perez, but the question I have for them is who can they see leading the nation during a crisis, Becerra or Perez?
UPDATE: Huffington Post says Becerra, Booker, and Kaine were all invited to speak in Philadelphia, where as Castro and Perez were not, but the former three always speak at the convention and the latter two were prohibited by the White House from speaking so presumably might resign if picked.
Veepstakes Not Over: Tim Kaine, Other VP Frontrunners Get Invitations To Speak At Convention
Tim Kaine, Cory Booker and Xavier Becerra were invited Tuesday to speak at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, sources familiar with the planning of the event told The Huffington Post.
The news is significant because of a report that same day from The New York Times saying that Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) had been given a prime speaking slot for [Monday] night of the convention. It’s a good place to be, but it’s not the vice presidential nominee’s spot, and the report immediately raised suspicion that Warren had been ruled out by the Clinton campaign for the No. 2 spot, with the Times calling it “an apparent sign that Senator Elizabeth Warren will not be named Hillary Clinton’s running mate.” The Clinton campaign has repeatedly said no VP decision has been made and that Warren is under consideration.
That invites also went out to Kaine, Booker and Becerra, top prospects as well, reinforces that the decision has yet to be made. Cabinet secretaries such as Tom Perez, who have also been floated, have been told by the White House they can’t speak at the convention.
No matter what slot a politician is scheduled for, sources said, they can quickly be moved if they are named VP.
Anyway now on to some more videos of Xavier Becerra making the case for Democratic causes.
