As promised, Tim Kaine held a late-September general election rally Friday morning in Houston! And once again, it was made clear that he and Hillary "take Texas very seriously":
Hillary Clinton's running mate, Tim Kaine, swung through Texas on Friday, part of an effort by Democrats to establish campaign infrastructure and raise funds in the Lone Star State in the last weeks of the race.
The U.S. senator from Virginia spoke to an excited crowd of about 400 supporters in Houston. Harris County, like Dallas, is a Democratic stronghold.
But Kaine promised those gathered Friday morning at the Communications Workers of America Local Union 6662 that the rest of Texas, just like his home state, would soon turn blue.
"You're going to see the same thing happen in Texas that we saw in Virginia." -Tim Kaine
"We can see the spirit. We can see the energy. We can see a state, that is a red state, moving in the best direction," said Kaine, who abandoned the podium to stride across the stage. "You're going to see the same thing happen in Texas that we saw in Virginia. There's going to be a day when it's going to start to move statewide, and then it's going to move very fast your direction."
Next stop: Austin!
Later Friday in Austin, Kaine raised money for the campaign and met with nearly 40 Hispanic state leaders and pushed the importance of the Hispanic vote in the November election.
"The Latino community ends up being the difference maker in our races, and that's the case in Virginia, in Texas, in Arizona," Kaine said. "We have that respect because we know we're stronger together, we've also seen the difference our Latino community makes."
And because of the stark differences between Trump and Clinton's immigration policies, Kaine said, the public will decide the future of immigration policy this year.
"The American voter has a choice," he said. "We're going to win this race, and that's going to send ... that what the American voter wants, is a comprehensive reform for the first time."
He also had this to say about today's breaking political news:
Watch the full Houston rally above and the full Austin press conference below. And keep an eye on the polls...if it stays close here, maybe Hillary herself will make it back to the Lone Star State before early voting begins!
VOLUNTEER TO TURN TEXAS BLUE!
