Montanans have consistently fought against a statewide sales tax. It’s practically written into our genetic code at this point. But when a billionaire from New Jersey, Republican candidate for governor Greg Gianforte, says the only tax he likes is the one that someone else pays, he sees a sales tax as the perfect solution.
Governor Steve Bullock and Senator Jon Tester take the issue on with one of the best political ads of the season. It’s really nice when politicians are actually people.
(I think the staff in the back seat must have gone to Famous Dave’s across the street.)
Gianforte, who founded RightNow Technologies and eventually sold it to Oracle, uses his hard earned billion to fund a young earth creation museum in eastern Montana, and donate to Focus on the Family and Heritage Foundation. He is unpopular for taking a stand against public stream access, public lands, public education (he’s on the board of a Christian school), and equal pay for women. Bullock is a bright and effective governor who has steered Montana with fiscal competency and heart. He was our Attorney General, and fought all the way to the Supreme Court to maintain our strict campaign finance laws after the Citizens United decision. He lost, but Montana came back with other campaign finance laws that helped adjust to that new reality, which, of course, Gianforte opposes. Gianforte is absolutely clueless about most Montana issues, and avoids talking about most of them because he just gets slayed by any basically informed Montanan whenever he engages in conversation.
Vote for Bullock!!!! And watch the Taco John’s ad just for fun!
