Progressive hero, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D. OH), faces the voters again in 2018. One of the many reasons I love Brown is because of his stance on free trade and labor unions. So it’s look like he found a way to put President-Elect Donald Trump to task with one of his big campaign promises:
At a news conference in Cleveland, Brown called on Trump to follow through on his campaign promise to immediately renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement, writes cleveland.com's Mary Kilpatrick.
Brown said he'd reached out to Trump's transition team and offered to help push for changes to NAFTA. Brown, who was vetted as a possible vice-presidential nominee for Hillary Clinton, long has criticized NAFTA and other international trade deals.
"He's got a lot of resistance from his own party, but people like me will stand with him on renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement," Brown said. "I am elected to represent the people of Ohio. I will work with him on things we believe in common."
Now Brown’s not an idiot. He probably doesn’t think Trump is sincere about that promise but this is the right direction to go. If Trump actually does follow through, it puts Brown in the spotlight and gets to run on this argument. If Trump fails on this promise, Brown can highlight that Trump truly doesn’t care about the working man and utilize voters’ anger and disappointment and translate it into votes. There’s not doubt the Koch Brothers will spend big to try and defeat him again and with Secretary of State Josh Manderl (R. OH) gearing up for a second round, we need Brown more than ever. It’s not too early to start thinking about the 2018 midterms and to save are best members of the U.S. Senate in order for us to have a say. With that being said, click here to get involved with Brown’s re-election campaign.
