Harry Reid took to the Senate floor Tuesday to implore Donald Trump not to stand by his appointment of "a champion of white supremacists" to a top White House post. Reid quoted a CNN article saying white nationalist leaders were "praising" the appointment of Steve Bannon and noted the Southern Poverty Law Center had called Bannon "a main driver" of making Breitbart News a white nationalist "propaganda mill." Reid also cited a court filing in which Bannon was quoted saying that he didn't want his children to attend schools with Jewish kids. He ended his floor speech by calling on Trump to rescind the appointment for the sake of unifying the country.
If Trump is serious about seeking unity, the first thing he should do is rescind his appointment of Steve Bannon. Rescind it. Don't do it. Think about this. Don't do it. As long as a champion of racial division is a step away from the Oval Office, it would be impossible to take Trump's efforts to heal the nation seriously. So I say to Donald Trump, take responsibility. Rise to the dignity of the office of the president of the United States instead of hiding behind your Twitter account, and show America that racism, bullying, and bigotry have no place in the White House or in America.
