This will be short. It’s just a note to my #HamiltonElectors compadres to let them know that I followed through with the action plan I proposed here:
Trump Handed Us An Opening
In that diary, I proposed capitalizing on Trump’s blunders into the conflict between China and Taiwan to drive a wedge between Trump and the business community. Trump handed me another gift on that front by going after Boeing — on Twitter! I’m sure the private conversations about that were quite different than the public statements from Boeing.
These are not being sent to the electors!
The pile of envelopes above is addressed to a select group of business leaders (CEOs, Presidents, a handful of other positions) who donated in the recent election cycle to Kasich, Rubio or Bush — but not to Trump. I’ve chosen them from the states of OH, MI, PA and WI primarily because these are the red states where my own U.S. business networks are the strongest. These are well-connected individuals who are likely to know one or more of the electors personally, or who are so prominent that they can reach out to anyone in the state.
While I have only met six of them personally, I have worked with about ⅓ of the companies and I have some unique professional credentials that might grab the attention of another third. So I have some expectation that at least those letters will reach their targets, as long as their Executive Assistants are not Trumpettes.
It’s a bit of a personal risk, for sure.
If word gets around, I may never work in these states again — or it could lead to a bunch of new interest in my professional work. I guess I’ve decided that I’m OK either way. My overseas clients, I know, will appreciate that I did what I could.
Most of them will arrive on Monday or Tuesday. A few may take until Wednesday. I had hoped to get these out yesterday but it started snowing in Portland.
Kosmail me if you want the text of what I sent.
I decided not to share the contents of the package with this community in a diary, but I’d be happy to share it with anyone who has a similar contact list they can leverage. It’s tailored for an establishment Republican audience, the type of people who may have voted for Trump, but who may have also abstained or voted for Johnson (but probably not Clinton). So it doesn’t really speak to the people here.
I also hope to get the best section of the article published someplace, and that will be harder to do if I publish it here first.
The final letter changed dramatically from what I originally proposed. I shortened the cover letter quite a bit, moved a lot of the details about the Hamilton Electors strategy into a separate article, and enclosed a separate list of electors, Republican elected officials and Republican committee officers. Some of those may be under attack by Trump’s efforts to replace the Republicans who were disloyal to them.
I’d appreciate thoughts and prayers for these envelopes.
Finally, all of this is, as we all know, a Hail Mary. Speaking of which, if you’re the praying type, please pray that these little messages find willing targets with open minds and open hearts. Or surround them with light / good energy / best wishes.
I’ll post another diary if I hear something back from anyone or if the article gets published. I don’t expect to hear anything. If this makes a difference, I’ll probably never know. But at least I know I tried.
