Ah, Marco Rubio. After his humiliating pounding in his own home state's presidential primary at the (rather puny) hands of Donald Trump, a beleaguered Rubio swore he was done with politics:
A month later, Rubio went back on his “word”—which I put in scare-quotes because Rubio doesn’t seem like the kind of person who actually understands what promises are—and decided to run for re-election anyway. It’s all just a way of keeping his future presidential ambitions alive, of course, because just the other day, Rubio refused to commit to serving a full six-year Senate term:
“No one can make that commitment because you don’t know what the future’s gonna hold in your life personally or politically.”
Fortunately, the people of Florida don’t have to accept this malarkey, because Rubio’s newly minted general election opponent, Rep. Patrick Murphy, fired back a killer two-word response:
“I can.”
Murphy is an energetic campaigner and dedicated Democrat who, it bears mentioning, decided to run for this seat before Rubio ever kicked off his bid for the presidency. At the time, it was still possible that Rubio wouldn’t seek the White House, meaning that Murphy was prepared to take him on even then. Because Rubio is a slithering swamp snake straight out of the Everglades, we wound up with this matchup anyway. But despite the incumbent’s about-face, polls show a winnable race for Team Blue—and Master Donald, whom Rubio has now submissively embraced, is causing serious problems for the Florida GOP at the top of the ticket.
The best part is that Rubio doesn’t have to break his promise after all: He can still become a private citizen next year. All we have to do is make sure he loses. Again. And that’s why Daily Kos is delighted to endorse Patrick Murphy.
Please give $3 to Patrick Murphy to help him crush Marco Rubio’s dreams a second time!
