Quick and dirty metaphor:
You lead a team of travelers, yourself included in that group.
There is a fork coming up in the road. One direction leads you straight off a cliff, and you can see the cliff when you come to the fork. There is only one other alternative path by the time you get there; you cannot go backwards or stay put.
It was my job to clear out a good path as your other option besides the cliff. I didnt do a great job; it was walkable, but full of rocks and had foul-smelling, prickly plants tightly embedded on either side.
You chose to walk yourself and others off the cliff, noting at the time that you really hate the smell of those flowers and have been walking on rocks for awhile.
Yes, I didn't do a great job of clearing the path for you, nor of convincing you to take that path, and that's on me. You might've even believed I could've let someone else build the path, and it would've been better than the one I built.
But let’s be honest, fair, and take some personal responsibility:
You walked yourself and others off the fucking cliff.
