The Virginia governor’s race has been filled with the right-wing racism of Minnesota-born Corey Stewart. Like his fellow cave-dweller Republicans emboldened by his Party’s movement into a bigoted oblivion, Stewart has tried to stake his claim as the most racist and anti-semitic of his fellow candidates, while saying he isn’t racist or anti-semitic, of course. On Sunday, Corey Stewart spoke at a synagogue in Northern Virginia, and according to the Washington Post, his bullshit was not flying.
“Today most of the anti-Semitic bigotry is not coming from the right. It’s coming from the left. We have to face it,” said Stewart, prompting a collective gasp and incredulous laughter from the crowd of about 400 at Temple Rodef Shalom in Fairfax County.

Stewart received the iciest reception of the four candidates who appeared at the forum, which was sponsored by the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington. He participated with one of his Republican rivals, state Sen. Frank W. Wagner (Virginia Beach), and Democrats Tom Perriello, a former congressman, and Ralph Northam, the state’s lieutenant governor.
Stewart tried to use anti-semitism on Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison, who has a history of showing support for the Nation of Islam’s Louis Farrakhan—though Rep. Ellison distanced himself from the Nation a little over a decade ago now. Corey Stewart, who trails the Republican frontrunner, has been working overtime to shore up the single-issue Republican voters who want people of color and Jewish people to stop making them feel “culturally anxious.”
