Back in February, right around the same time that Trump supposedly pressed Comey to ease up on Flynn, Chaffetz made his own declaration.
Chaffetz declared that the house oversight committee would not investigate the circumstances behind Flynn’s resignation stating that the situation was “Taking care of itself”.
Two months later Chaffetz announces that he will not seek reelection and be resigning from his post in June.
As it turns out Flynn is refusing a Senate Subpeona is now pleading the 5th (refusal to self incriminate). So it looks like maybe Chaffetz was premature in declining to investigate.
The question for Chaffetz, under oath of course is “Did anyone in the White House suggest that you not pursue an investigation into Flynn”.
FH Buckley in his article against obstruction of justice between trump & Comey...states…
The best evidence that that’s what Trump meant and how Comey understood it is what happened next: Nothing. Comey didn’t say anything about shutting down the investigation. And he didn’t resign.
Comey didn’t shutdown the investigation or resign….Chaffetz did.
