The following Twitter thread has lead to discussions about Hillary Clinton’s role in the Resistance:
I voted for Hillary in the primaries and general election. I wanted her to be the first female President and most importantly to defeat Donald Trump. She didn't win, and now it's up to us to fight Trump’s agenda.
I appreciate what she has has done throughout her political career but as a leading figure in Democratic politics, I think it's time for her to retire from that role. Here are my reasons…
- Hillary leading the Resistance feeds into Republican narrative about Trump-Russia-gate. They already argue that the Resistance is just people who 'can't accept that Hillary lost the 2016 election’. We can't allow that narrative to define us. We can't allow Trump’s minions to use Hillary as a distraction from Trump’s trainwreck of a Presidency
- Hillary is an unpopular political figure. After 30 years of right-wing smears and two unsuccessful Presidential campaigns, Clinton’s favorable ratings are very low, even among Democrats. Politically, she brings nothing to the table in terms of uniting or energizing the Left.
Hillary can still be active in politics if she wants but for the good of the Democratic Party, I think she needs to keep a lower profile.
